Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

Q: How does FridgeFreeze performance compare to other portable fridge/ freezers?

A: FridgeFreeze will cool down up to five times faster than some name brand portable coolers. Drawing as little as 17-amp hours in a 24-hour period, it is also the most efficient portable refrigerator/ freezer available.

Other portable refrigerators suffer in extreme heat. The FridgeFreeze was tested in the Arizona desert when the outside temperature was 115 degrees Fahrenheit. It maintained an inside temperature of 28 degrees and was drawing only 3.8 amps. It draws only 2.3 amps in 85-degree temperature.

For more information, read the article written by JP Magazine under the press release section of our website. [top]

Q: Why is the FridgeFreeze more efficient than other portable fridge/ freezers?

A: The FridgeFreeze is so efficient because it uses the entire outside casing as the condenser to dissipate heat. This is possible because the casing is made of marine grade aluminum. All other portable fridge/ freezers use a fan and an external condenser. The problem with this method is that a fan increases the amp draw and the external condenser is susceptible to corrosion and breakage. [top]

Q: How does the FridgeFreeze's durability compare to other portable refrigerator/ freezers?

A: Fridgefreeze refrigerator/ freezers are the most durable units available. Every FridgeFreeze is handcrafted in the USA and built to last for years. These refrigerator/ freezers are used by many off-roaders including several Baja race teams. No other portable refrigerator is built to sustain this type of rugged use. The casing is anodized aluminum, not plastic or painted steel that will rust. We use solid anodized aluminum handles that have been tested up to a half-ton lifting load. The ABS lid is painted twice with a UV protectant to resist fading. All electronic components are the best available. [top]

Q: What is the warranty period?

A: All parts and labor are warranted for 1 year. FridgeFreeze will allow the return of up to 10 units in an initial order for a period of 60 days for a full refund. Units ordered in excess of 10 units cannot be returned.

We manufacture each FridgeFreeze in San Diego, California and we can service them at the same location. Other portable fridge/ freezers, although sold in the United States, are manufactured overseas. [top]

Q: How long will the FridgeFreeze run on one deep cycle battery?

A: Typically the FridgeFreeze will run for two to five days, depending on ambient temperature and how frequently the lid is opened and closed. This is based on an isolated battery that is not connected to a charging system. However, if the battery is connected to a 12-volt auto or boat charging system, the FridgeFreeze should run indefinitely if the vehicle is started on a daily basis. If the FridgeFreeze will be used in an automobile, we recommend installing a deep cycle battery in addition to the starting battery. The vehicle's alternator then recharges the deep cycle battery whenever the automobile is running. [top]

Q: Can it work as a refrigerator and a freezer at the same time?

A: Yes. We recommend that you place the items you want to freeze on the bottom plate of the FridgeFreeze, because that is the coldest area. Then lay our thermal barrier over your frozen foods. Next, place the foods that need to be refrigerated directly on top of the thermal barrier.

You may need to adjust the thermostat to find the optimum setting. [top]

Q: Can you stand the FridgeFreeze up on end?

A: No, you never should tilt the FridgeFreeze more than 30 degrees. [top]

Q: Can a FridgeFreeze be wired through a cigarette lighter receptacle?

A: Yes, we also sell a cigarette lighter adapter that works in most vehicles. However, it is best to wire the FridgeFreeze directly to your battery as this is a more reliable connection. [top]

Q: How will the FridgeFreeze perform on a boat?

A: The FridgeFreeze is built for the marine environment. All materials are corrosion resistant aluminum, brass, stainless steel, or ABS plastic. The bottom of the FridgeFreeze has skid resistant rubber pads. It makes an excellent marine refrigerator or freezer.
